Introduction
Summary
Catch a man a fish and he'll eat for a day...Teach a man to fish and he'll eat for a lifetime!

Catching fish is what I have been doing for the past 17 years. As a healthcare security professional, a significant amount of my time has been spent intervening in disputes. Hospitals are highly stressful and emotional places, and outbursts, acts of violence and aggression are a daily occurrence.

Throughout my more than 2,500 interventions, I have come to understand a few things:

- Conflict is one of the most constant and consistent aspects of people's lives.
- The influence and impact that conflict has on peoples lives is enormous.
- There is a direct link between someone's conflict competence, and their contentment with their lives.
- How we are viewed by others: good, fair, reasonable, stubborn, miserable or ignorant relates directly to our skill at conflict management.
- The vast majority of people are not very good at managing the conflict in their lives, and it shows in the ways they interact with one another.

Getting back to catching fish, I realized that when I step in and resolve a dispute for someone an immediate problem gets solved, but I'm only going to have to do it again the next time a dispute arises.

The benefit to me has been that I have accumulated an incredible amount of experience. I can honestly say that I am now an expert, especially when to comes to managing violent and aggressive behaviour. But have I been making the most out of these skills?

I say no. I can be much more effective teaching people how to fish. If I teach someone how to safely and effectively manage conflict and resolve disputes, then they can go off and bring about some significant improvements to their jobs, relationships and lives! So that's what I'm doing now.

I love helping people solve problems. It's why I do what I do. I have built a skill set that can be of great benefit to everyone. If you see the value, I would love to help you learn how to fish!

Conflict is a normal, inevitable part of our lives. We can't escape it, so we must learn to manage it.

Conflict Management Coaching is an extremely effective process designed to assist individuals to determine how best to manage the conflicts in their lives. It is goal oriented and future focused. The specific coaching model that I use is the CINERGY model.

If there is a past, present or future conflict that you are having difficulty managing, I encourage you to contact me to discuss how coaching can help you.

Conflict Management Mentoring:

All of us, especially those who work in service industries such as law enforcement, health care and social services, are required to deal with aggressive and confrontational behavior from time to time. Some of us more often than others.

It can be confusing, frightening, stressful and even dangerous. The negative effects of these interactions can remain with us for a long time afterwards.

The bad news is that there doesn't appear to be a sure fire way to stop people from behaving badly.

The good news is that, if you're the one dealing with these people, you can learn how to do it safely and effectively.

I have spent the past 17 years in an occupation that has required me to intervene in well over 2,500 confrontational situations. Working in Canada's largest hospital, I have experienced just about every conceivable extreme of human behavior, many times over.

I have chosen to use a professional mentoring relationship to do this training, because there is nothing more effective than a one on one relationship that is customized to the client's personal strengths and goals. There is a focus, intimacy and flexibility that group training programs will never have.

Workplace Fairness Analyst
Workplace Fairness Institute

Poorly managed conflict is like a disease that can destroy an organization from the inside out.

I help to fight this disease by providing workplace conflict management training and consulting services, with a focus on employee fairness, to organizations from all industries and sizes.

I work with organizational leaders to evaluate the:

- Workplace Culture: does a Culture of Fairness exist?

- The existing conflict management system, and it's effectiveness.

- Additional conflict management options that may be implemented to help bring a more balanced approach to conflict management in the organization.

Once the existing conflict management system has been evaluated, we will work together to develop solutions that address any weaknesses and inefficiencies identified.

The final phases are the implementation of the new conflict management system, and ongoing evaluation and monitoring of it's effectiveness.

As a Workplace Fairness Analyst, I am an active participant in the entire process. As long as my services are needed, I am available to the organization.

By ensuring a Culture of Fairness exists in their organization, leaders and employees alike will enjoy greater engagement, retention, productivity, pride and loyalty.

The benefits of having a strong, balanced conflict management system are huge, from both a financial and human perspective.

The costs of continuing on with a distressed or inadequate system can be catastrophic.

I encourage you to take a close look at your organization's current conflict management system, and take proactive steps to make it the best it can be.
