Introduction
Summary
I started my nursing career in 1978 as a nursing assistant. Following my Pupil Nurse training in 1982 I took up my first Enrolled Nurse post at Sunnyside Royal Hospital near Montrose.
I moved to Kingseat Hospital, Aberdeenshire in 1987 to work in wards caring for elderly people with mental health problems.
In1990 I took up a post in a community psychiatric rehabilitaion unit in Aberdeen. Whilst there I completed my Conversion Course to a first level nurse and graduated with a Diploma In Higher Education in Nursing Studies.
I had a fantastic opportunity to work in a joint NHS/SAMH psychiatric rehabilitation project in Aberdeen. Unfortunately after three challenging and enlightening years, due to compatability issues, the NHS component of which I was a part, chose to withdraw its services leaving the project a single SAMH service.
I moved back to my base hospital, Royal Cornhill Hospital, Aberdeen into an elderly mental health ward for people with organic and / or functional mental health problems. Between 2002 and 2004 I completed a degree in Nursing Studies.
I chose to specialise in caring for elderly people primarily with Dementia and grasped an opportunity to undertake training to be a facilitator in Health Care Asistant Dementia training based at the University of Stirling (a centre of exelence for dementia training).
Between 2009 and 2013 I studied for an MSc degree and graduated with a MSc in Transitions of Care.
I am currently studying for a diploma in Coaching and Mentoring and have already gained a certificate in coaching. I am a business coach, helping small business owners to dramatically improve their profits through improved marketing and advertising. I am also training to be a career coach and am a member of The Association for Coaching (UK).
